Theory: Spirits are alcoholic or hydroalcoholic preparations containing volatile substances. The volatile ingredient may be in the form of solid, liquid or gas. They are generally used for internal as well as externally as inhalations for their medicinal value while their major use is as flavouring agent. They may be used in the formulation of aromatic waters or as pharma ceutical aids
Spirits are prepared by following methods
1. Simple Solution
2. Solution with maceration
3. Chemical reaction
4. Distillation
Materials: Measuring cylinder, beaker, amber coloured bottle, glass rod.
Reagents: Peppermint oil, alcohol (90%)
Procedure:
1. Take a little quantity of alcohol in measuring cylinder. 2. Add required quantity of peppermint oil.
3. Shake well so that peppermint get mixed with alcohol.
4. Add more amount of alcohol to make up the volume.
5. Transfer it into the bottle, label and dispense it.
