EFFERVESCENT GRANULES FORMULATION
- Theory
- The mixture of citric acid and tartaric acid with sodium bicarbonate. Usually, a medicament is included and saccharin or sucrose may be added as a sweetening agent. When the patient dissolves the dose in water, the acids and bicarbonates react together producing carbonic acids, and preparation is taken during effervescence or immediately afterwards.
- Procedure:
- Time needed: 1 hour.
- How to prepare effervescent granules?
- 1. Sieve the powder
- The powder was sifted through sieve no. 60
- 2. Mix the powder
- Mixed and transferred to a hot porcelain dish
- 3. Heating
- The mixture was heated on a boiling water bath without stirring or pressing the powder.
- 4. Sieve through Sieve no 8
- The resultant mixture was sieved through sieve no. 8.
- 5. Dry the granules
- Granules were dried at 40˚C.
- 6. Use of Sieve number 14 and 20
- Dried granules were passed through sieve no 14 and retained over sieve no 20.
- 7. Fill in the container
- The product was packed in a wide-mouth contain
